Primary 5-7 Netball Tournament at Carnwath Primary At netball we were split into countries – my country was Zimbabwe. We started playing the games in our teams against each other; my team was good at passing but not so good at shooting! Sadly, we didn’t get into the final, but we had a blast! We had a lunch break and then we had 3 more matches until we returned back to school. Each coach from each team got to pick a Player of the Day award and it was really well organised. The teachers even got to have some nice cake! Sadly, not for the pupils. It was good that we had a mixed team with members from other schools in our teams and we got to meet some new people. Primary 7 Residential The Primary 7s went to Broomlee for their residential in May. When we got there, we went over the safety rules and our first challenge was to put the sheets and cases on our beds! We only had 5 minutes to do it too and it was very hard! My favourite activity was called the ‘Catwalk’; there were two tall trees and a wooden beam in the middle. There were notches on the trees and you had to try to climb up onto the beam, if you got up, you had to try to walk across the beam and when you got to the middle, do a pose, and then try going to the other side and touch the tree! It was really hard, but we had two shots each and I managed to do it both times. Once you touched the tree, you had to go back to the middle and either jump down or trust fall and you were on a harness and so our instructor lured you down close to the ground (so you were dangling) and your partner lifted you up and spun you around, this was called the washing machine. For breakfast the next day, we had pancakes, toast, bread rolls and yoghurt. There were plenty of choices and you could go up and get seconds. It was really good and I was surprised how good it was, I wasn’t expecting so much. For lunch we got the choice of baguettes or sausage rolls and for dinner we had the choice of macaroni cheese or spaghetti Bolognese. It was all really good. I had the spaghetti Bolognese, and it was amazing! We had the chance to make lots of friends and there were plenty of opportunities for free play. We did lots of cool activities and it was probably my favourite trip we went on in primary school. By Ella, P7
P5-7 Trip to Biggar Library & Museum (Added 01Apr25)
The class went on a trip inti Biggar at the end of March. First it was the Library. The pupils had a quiz about their knowledge of how the library works and general knowledge about books. Some pupils had the opportunity to take out a book, while others took applications home to join the library. Did you know you can join the library online? Here is the link: How to join a SLC library
Then at Biggar Museum pupils took part in a World War 2 workshop. It was interesting to find out about the Polish soldiers who were evacuated to Biggar. Did you know that over 3000 troops came to Biggar? The Polish soldiers protected the area and enjoyed some Scottish culture. Pupils took part in a Polish dance as social dances were organised to bring the Polish soldier community and the local Biggar community together. Finally, pupils created their own ration books. All pupils were great role models and upheld all Libberton values.
WW2 Topic By Craig, P6
As part of our WW2 topic, we had a visit from a lady from Summerlee Museum yesterday and she brought lots of things with her – I liked holding the bits of WW2 bombs! It felt very surreal! We learned that there was food, oil and clothes rationing and people would have to juggle getting food to eat and oil to cook with and they would need to stitch up their clothes. When their shoes got too small, they wouldn’t be able to get new ones. Children were evacuated during the war and taken away from their families and sent to the countryside to live with random strangers! They would have felt very sad and scared and would have been away from their families for around 6 years. Women had lots of jobs as well because the men were at war. One of the women we learnt about worked inside a factory and they also helped with farming so that they could eat. I have really enjoyed learning about this topic.
Genius Hour (Added 01Apr25)
Genius hour is an opportunity for P5-7 to plan, design and create their own unique project. It is an inclusive opportunity as it based on pupils’ interests and ideas and the end product is determined by the pupil. Some pupils are making models, while others are making works of art or presentations. All pupils have demonstrated ambition as their project is self-directed and everyone is keen to produce an interesting project. Many pupils have shown resilience as they have had to adapt and modify their original plans to make their project work. Some pupils are working in pairs, where they have shown respect and kindness towards one another as they share responsibility and delegate tasks to complete their project.
We are going into the final weeks of Genius Hour so pressure is on to get as much done as they can each week. At the end of the block, pupils will present their project with a focus on the skills used and developed across the 6 weeks. Please check the Gallery page for some photographs.
Young Leaders of Learning (Added 01Apr25)
The Young Leaders of Learning (YLOL), Jennifer, Lena, Leon and Sam, had a great visit recently to Wiston Primary accompanied with the YLOL from Tinto Primary. All YLOL enjoyed a tour of the school, a forest schools session and a micro:bit project. It has been lovely to see pupils foster relationships with others across both schools and to learn from each other. Libberton’s YLOL will complete their final school visit to Tinto Primary in April.
Sky Studios Tour
By Thomas P5 The P5-7s went to Sky Studios in Livingston with Wiston Primary, and we made our own news report about influencers. We had to use Teamwork – we were put into teams and had to plan the reports; everyone was given a different job to do. My job was to be the camera person – it was very fun but was also hard work. At the end of the day, we watched all of the groups reports about influencers – there were 4 groups in total. They were all very good – it was extremely fun and exciting. We loved it.
Young Leaders of Learning By Sam P6 and Leon P7
The Young Leaders of Learning went to Tinto Symington Football Club for a training day recently to meet up with other schools who are also taking part. We discussed the skills and qualities an exceptional YLOL should have. We discovered which schools we would be paired with and shared some information about ourselves and our school. We were excited to find out we will be working with Tinto and Wiston.
To introduce and showcase our school we created a Google Slide of photos and video of our school and playground. Later in December we took part in a Google Meet with our joined schools to get to know each other a little bit better. We shared what we were looking forward to about Christmas and played a fun game of Kahoot and came in 3rd out of 8 teams! We also played a game of Christmas Pictionary and a scavenger hunt. We are now looking forward to visiting Tinto and Wiston soon!
P6 World of Work Day at Biggar High School By Charlie P6
On Friday 6th December, P6 went along to Biggar High School to take part in a fun transition event with all the other schools from the learning community. We were put into groups with pupils from other schools. The aim of the activity was to make Christmas products and sell them. We had to work together to give our team a name, and each team member had a different role. I choose to be the finance manager. Each person had a different role, for example: quality assurance, buyer, seller. We had a fun day working in groups, socialising with other people and making new friends.
P7 STEM Day at Biggar High School By John and Lucy P7
On Thursday 5th December we had a really fun day at Biggar High. We worked in groups of 4 alongside pupils from different schools in our learning Community to take on a variety of challenges. After that we all got to sample the high school lunches, they were delicious! In the afternoon we went along to the Science classrooms to take part in activities about our senses. For example, for taste we got to taste Skittles and had to guess their colour. Our favourite parts were trying out the lunches and meeting new people.
